Echinacea ( Echinacea angustifolia ) is cultivated as a medicinal plant in Central Europe . The main property of Echinacea are:

  • Immunostimulant : Increases defense mechanisms , a general non-specific stimulation of both humoral ( antibody production larger ) as in cellular immunity ( phagocytosis ; destruction of microorganisms by leukocytes . Produces an increased number of leukocytes ( white blood cells) in the blood) .

  • Anti- inflammatory : Prevents the progression of infections by inhibiting the enzyme hyaluronidase produced by many bacterial species ; favors the formation of granulation tissue is responsible for wound healing , stimulates the reproduction of fibroblasts (the cells responsible for tissue regeneration and tissue scarring) .

  • Antitoxic : Stimulates detoxification processes in the liver and kidneys, through which neutralize toxic substances or extraneous circulating blood.

  • Antibiotic and antiviral and anticancer by destruction of malignant cells.

Clinical applications :

  • Infectious diseases in general. Echinacea acts on the body , destroying the germs that cause infection .
